Description:
An early example of the economic power of Yankee ingenuity, The state of NY funded the construction of a canal that connected NY City to the Great lakes via Albany and the Hudson River. The canal was completed in 8 years 1817-1825. It reduced the transit time from 20 days to 6 and caused the price of a ton of grain in NY City to drop from $100 to $5. This early development made NY city a gigantic grain port.
