aug 1, 1975 - Helsinki Accords
Description:
Major diplomatic agreement signed at the conclusion of the first conference on security and co-operation in Europe. The accords were primarily an effort to reduce tension between east and west Europe by having common acceptance in how Europe would be after WWII. The agreement pledged the nations that signed (all European countries, US, and Canada) to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms, and to cooperate in economic, scientific, and humanitarian issues.
