dec 31, 1953 - Brown v. Board of Education was a landmark 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision that declared state laws establishing racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional. The unanimous 9-0 ruling declared that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal", overturning the "separate but equal" doctrine previously established by Plessy v. Ferguson
