Description:

Anglo-Americans followed Stephen Austin, migrating into the Mexican State of Tejas in large numbers. (by 1835 their were 30,000) In 1836, the leaders of this group declared Independence from Mexico and fought several battles against the Mexican Armies under Antonio de Santa Anna (Alamo, Goliad and San Jacinto) in an attempt to establish it. After the victory at San Jacinto the captured dictator Santa Anna signed away the territory (under duress) and Texas remained in Independence Limbo until being annexed to the U.S. in 1848 after the Mexican American War.
