mar 4, 1829 - A. Jackson
becomes
president
Description:
"Old Hickory"- General Jackson was the war hero of the Battle of New Orleans and a military campaign in Spanish Florida in 1818 again brought him into the national spotlight. Although I greatly disliked many of his actions as President, it should be noted that he greatly expanded the powers of the President. Among the important precedents this man set were: not executing a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, sponsoring legislation to forcefully relocate Indian populations, and threatening the use of military force against a State.
