oct 16, 1859 - Harper's Ferry
Description:
Harper's Ferry was a failed raid that took place six years before the Civil War started. John Brown led a group of 18 abolitionist men to attack Virginia in a forceful anti-slavery statement. Even though the raid itself wasn't very effective, it stirred up tensions between abolitionists and pro-slavery people, moving towards the conditions for a civil war.
