Mansa Musa was a Mali emperor. In 1324 he and a large caravan made the hajj. Mansa was extremely rich in a way that many in Europe had not seen. He was also very generous. The wealth he showed as he made the journey to Mecca opened the eyes of the West to resources that Africa had. This led to more and more expeditions into Africa, and eventually to the exploitation of Africa in order to get its goods.
