Description:

This was another achievement of Sec. Of State Adams, made possible by Andrew Jackson's foray, incursion, and invasion of Spanish Florida in 1818. The US agreed to keep its hands off of Texas in exchange for Florida. The Spanish were distracted by a wave of independence movements throughout Latin America and saw it as infeasible to keep Florida with its proximity to a growing United States.
