Midjourney, best known for its AI image generation platform, announces Midjourney Medical, a new division building a full-body ultrasonic scanner called the Midjourney Scanner. The device uses 500,000 transducers arranged in a ring to send ultrasonic sound waves through the body from every angle as a person descends on a motorized platform into a shallow pool of water.
CEO David Holz says the system processes 17 gigabytes of data per second to produce sub-millimeter 3D body maps comparable to MRI scans, targeting a 60-second scan time with no radiation. The company has invested $74 million in the project and licenses core ultrasound chip technology from Butterfly Network under a deal signed in November 2025. A first Midjourney Spa housing 10 scanners is planned to open in San Francisco's Union Square in late 2027.
