Michael O'Fallon
Last seen alive
Description:
"[He] apparently was seen hitchhiking south on I-5 near Barbur Boulevard in Portland at about 5:30pm Wednesday, July 16 [1980]. At that time, he wore blue denim 'cut-off' shorts and either a white V-neck T-shirt with blue shoulders or a white pullover shirt with a collar. However, no clothing was found on or near the body when it was discovered shortly after 4am Thursday, July 17, [1980]" (ERG 7/24/80).
"A hitchhiker who fits the victim's description was given a short ride to the entrance to the southbound lanes of I-5 near Barbur Boulevard in Portland on the afternoon of July 16, [1980]" (ERG 7/29/80).
"O'Fallon's mother, Mary Jo, reported to authorities Aug. 5 [1980] that her son was missing. Michael had told her he would call home a week before, Mrs O'Fallon said, but she had hesitated to report his disappearance because the youth had said he wanted to go to Alaska. She thought he might have been camping away from a phone, Mrs O'Fallon said. [...] He left home [July] 9, [1980], planning to be gone two or three weeks, she said, preferring solitude at least for a while. [...] O'Fallon, last seen in Portland July 16, [1980,] was probably picked up by a motorist who befriended, then killed, him" (SSJ 8/14/80).
