may 20, 1927 - Charles Lindbergh Flies Over The Atlantic

Description:

Charles Lindbergh's flight was known by many as the flight that first brought aviation into the true public eye. As stated by the National Air and Space Museum, "after Lindbergh's flight, The "Lindbergh boom" in aviation followed: aircraft industry stocks rose in value, and interest in flying skyrocketed". This clearly shows that the flight was a large contribution to the public's recognition of aviation, which in turn caused a boom in profit and stonks. This is corroborated by Lindbergh himself, as he says regarding his flight, "American commercial aviation, until recently a topic of ridicule, will lead the world within a few years". These views both show the importance of Lindebergh's flight. However, these views are disputed by Christopher Klein. "Most unfortunately, the text reheats two myths of the 1920s… and the Lindbergh phenomenon. Always rendered larger than life, the myths wound around these figures continue to obscure realities of those years", as he states. This shows a conflicting perspective that though these people were important, their influence may not be as great as some other sources would lead you to believe. Altogether, these sources suggest that the renewed public interest in aviation caused by Lindbergh may have been a large contributor, but it is possible that the more likely causes were simply going technology and profit in aviation in general.
