aug 2, 1795 - Treaty of Greenville

Description:

In the early 1790's, a Miami Chief named Little Turtle handed American troops some of its worst battle casualties of any Indian wars. Clearly what was being contested there was the Miami's and the seven other Native American peoples right to their ancestral land in the Ohio River Valley. It wasn't until four years later that a larger American army brought a war of conquest to these groups. The result was the precedent setting Treaty of Greenville, signed in 1795.
