Description:

The term which commonly refers to the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution. These amendments were adopted by the necessary number of states in 1791, just two years after the constitution itself. These rights (amendments) were promised by the federalists in the run up to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution in 1788-1789. The Bill of Rights specifically guarantees several important rights and principles such as: freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, the right of people to peaceably assemble and bring to government petitions for grievances, trial by jury, and prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment.
