jan 1, 445 BC - Artaxerxes I (Persia)
Description:
Artaxerxes I was a king of the Persian Empire. According to the Book of Nehemiah, he allowed Nehemiah, a Jewish official in the Persian court, to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the city’s walls. This was a major moment in the restoration of Jewish life after the Babylonian exile. Under Persian rule, Judah was no longer an independent kingdom, but Jerusalem slowly recovered as a religious and communal center.
