jan 1, 692 - Abd al-Malik (Umayyad)
Description:
Abd al-Malik was an Umayyad caliph who ruled during the early Islamic period. He ordered the construction of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, completed around 691/692 CE. This was one of the most important architectural changes in Jerusalem’s history. The building was placed on the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif, the site associated in Jewish tradition with the First and Second Temples, and in Islamic tradition with Muhammad’s Night Journey.
