jan 1, 26 - Pontius Pilate (Rome)
Description:
Pontius Pilate was the Roman governor, or prefect, of Judea under Emperor Tiberius. He ruled from around 26 to 36 CE. His administration represents the period when Judea was directly governed by Rome. Pilate is especially important because he is connected to tensions between Roman authority and the Jewish population, and because Christian tradition identifies him as the Roman official who sentenced Jesus to crucifixion.
