jan 1, 732 BC - Tiglath-Pileser III (Assyria)
Description:
Tiglath-Pileser III was one of the most powerful Assyrian kings and helped turn Assyria into a true empire. During the late 8th century BCE, he campaigned in the Levant and took control of parts of the northern Kingdom of Israel. This weakened Israel badly before the final fall of Samaria in 722 BCE. His campaigns brought Galilee, Gilead, and other northern regions under Assyrian control and began major deportations of Israelites.
