jan 1, 70 - Titus Flavius (Rome)
Description:
Titus was the Roman general, later emperor, who led the final Roman assault on Jerusalem during the First Jewish Revolt. In 70 CE, Roman forces captured Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Temple. This transformed Judaism forever: without the Temple, sacrifice-based worship ended, and rabbinic Judaism became increasingly central. The destruction also became one of the central tragedies remembered on Tisha B’Av.
