jan 1, 539 BC - Cyrus the Great (Persia)
Description:
Persian king Cyrus the Great conquered Babylon and allowed exiled peoples, including the Judeans, to return to their lands and rebuild temples. In Jewish history, this begins the Return to Zion and the path toward rebuilding the Second Temple. Cyrus is remembered positively in the Bible because his policy allowed the Judean exiles to restore Jerusalem and their worship.
