Description:
Mao suspected party members of moving away from his teaching and businessmen of secretly supporting capitalist ideas.
Conducted through mass meetings where loyal citizens were encouraged to denounce officials and employers who they considered guilty of offences.
Effect:
Increase in support for Mao, and a reduction of criminal activity. The humiliation was so great that around 2-3 million committed suicide.
