7h 47min, feb 25, 1979 y - Joseph Daly
Body found
Description:
"The body was discovered just off Laurel Tree Lane by a field worker about 7:15am yesterday" (SDUT 2/26/79).
"Deputy Coroner Ken Bell of San Diego [...] said the Daly boy had been sexually molested and had traces of both alcohol and chloral hydrate, which caused some poisoning" (SDUT 12/12/79).
"[He] left his Milpitas home in the early morning hours of Feb. 24, 1979, and began hitchhiking the 450 miles to Portland, Ore. [...] Less than 24 hours after his departure, two Mexican farm workers found his nude body alongside a road just outside Carlsbad, about 400 miles south of Milpitas. Joseph's death has been attributed to chloral hydrate (known as a 'Mickey Finn') and ethyl alcohol poisoning, which a coroner's spokesman said can be caused by excessive drinking" (SDUT 1/7/80).
"[...] He was 'a whimsical person and could have changed his mind about going to Oregon,' opting for Southern California instead. Jessie Daly says her son did not mention whether anyone was going with him to Oregon. 'When he did not come home the following Tuesday [2/27/79], we tried everything.' [...] His body was found at 7:47am Feb. 25 [1979] on Palomar Airport Road, just outside Carlsbad. [...] Joseph's body was identified in mid-October [1979]" (SDUT 1/7/80).
COD chloral hydrate & ethyl alcohol overdose/poisoning.

or PORTLAND [was hitchhiking to Portland to watch an eclipse when he went missing & was killed]
Reasons proposed: Demographics, general time period, SoCal; nude, found on side of road, hitchhiking, SAed, possibly dumped from moving vehicle (hence the numerous abrasions), COD poisoning/intoxication/overdose
Reasons against: Despite being proposed at the time, there were no later newspaper mentions/updates regarding whether Kraft is/was still considered a suspect, + not included in more recent/official lists.
