"Allison's car [...] was seen parked at a cafe in Needles at about midnight Monday evening [9/5/77]. No one was found around the car at that time. Allison's car was reportedly seen about 30 minutes later at a Needles gas station with two male occupants" (BDD Thurs., 9/8/77).

"Detectives theorize Allison may have picked up a hitchhiker or was waylaid in his sleeping bag. His auto was seen parked at a cafe in Needles around midnight Monday. Nobody was around the vehicle at that time, but about a half-hour later the car was seen at a service station in Needles with two male occupants" (TBC Thurs., 9/8/77).
