Description:

The bodies had been, “apparently dumped at the site a day earlier" [i.e., a day prior to discovery].

Police believe they died sometime Wednesday before their bodies were dumped in the field" (MC 12/10/82).
"[The autopsy report] did not list a time of death. [...] The men apparently died before they were transported to the field" (JCP 12/11/82).

The bodies were frozen when found, and had to thaw before the autopsies could be performed.
