"When Richard Keith showed up unexpectedly on Wanda Lynn Shepperd's doorstep in Carson on the evening of June 18, 1978, she was a little angry. He had hitchhiked to her house from Camp Pendleton. Still, she listened happily as he talked about their future when he got out of the Marines. He gave her a goodbye kiss and stepped out into the darkness" (Last Ride, Ch.7).

"Found June 19, 1978, along Moulton Parkway between El Toro and La Paz roads. He was last seen hitchhiking from a girlfriend's house the day before in Carson" (1988 Scorecard).
