jun 4, 1942 - The Battle of Midway. Japanese and American carriers fought again on the high seas. Japanese had planned to capture the island of Midway in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, home to a key American military base. The Americans had a important advantage: they had broken the secret Japanese code used to transmit messages. As a result, the American knew the date and location of the planned Japanese attack.
