jun 21, 1788 - U.S. Constitution
Description:
The 55 delegates involved were able, in 17 weeks, to hammer out a rock solid document that was comprehensive yet flexible enough to endure the winds of time. This document is still our Supreme Law of the Land, having had only 27 amendments in 217 years. It includes remarkable and ingenious concepts such as a federal system (power divided between national, state, and local governments), and the separation of powers between three branches of government through a system of checks and balances. This document became a model for almost every nation on earth and is governed by constitutional law.
