Just 42 years old, Robert Kennedy was murdered in a hotel in California. The murderer, Sirhan Sirhan was eventually sentenced to death after further investigation. Before the assassination, Kennedy was the leading democratic candidate for the election, during the time of the primaries. He appealed to poor African Americans, and believed in the equality between both blacks and whites. During the freedom riders movement, Kennedy played a major role in supporting and protecting them. He was also committed to making an impact of the civil rights movement.
