jun 12, 1963 - Assassination of Medgar Evers

Description:

Medgar Evers, an African American civil rights protests and leader, was shot by Byron De La Beckwith on June 12th in 1963. During his lifetime, Evers was apart of the U.S. Army and was associated with the NAACP organization. He recruited African Americans to join this organization, as while as encouraging the poor to try and register to vote. In the Emmett Till murder case, he was involved in getting evidence and organizing witnesses which continued to draw national attention at the time. Evers was shot and killed in Jackson, Mississippi, and was buried in a cemetery in Virginia.
