feb 3, 1870 - 15th Amendment
Description:
The 15th Amendment was ratified on February 3rd, 1870, and it prohibited the government from denying a citizen the right to vote based on skin color and race. No new technology was used. The outcome of the 15th Amendment was African Americans being allowed to vote and hold office in the United States, but it also caused people to create legal loopholes to prevent African Americans from voting. This event did not affect the Civil War’s outcome, as the war had ended years prior. The importance of this event came from the fact that it led to people from a variety of ethnic groups in the US to vote and serve in office in the future, such as Barack Obama becoming president of the United States, which was made possible by the 15th Amendment.
