mar 9, 1862 - Monitor V. Merrimack
Description:
Monitor v. Merrimack, or the Battle of Hampton Roads, took place in March of 1862 and was a battle between 2 ships: the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia. The technology used in this event was the new and advanced ironclad ships. Eventually, the battle between the two ships was a draw as neither ship was able to inflict significant damage to the other. This event impacted the outcome of the war as it managed to help the Union continue blockading Southern ports. This event was important as it helped the Union win the war, as well as made the old wooden naval ships useless and obsolete against the newer and stronger ironclad warships.
