apr 1, 1861 - Anaconda Plan
Description:
The Anaconda Plan was created in 1861 by General Winfield Scott. The plan’s goal was to destroy the South’s economy by restricting trade and blocking ports in the South. The plan used the relatively new steam-powered warships, and the South slowly lost money through trade restrictions. This weakened the economy of the South and limited its access to weapons to fight during the Civil War. This was important because it was a very effective strategy that played a large role in the Union’s victory.
