The Detroit Riots were among the most violent and destructive riots in U.S history. The riots involved residents of predominantly African American neighborhoods in Detroit and the city's police department. The riots lasted 5 days and resulted in 43 people dead, 342 injured, and nearly 1,400 buildings burned by some 7,000 National Guard and U.S troops that had been called into service.
