Apollo 11 landed on the moon on July 20, 1969. It was the first manned Moon landing in history. The first man to step foot on the Moon was Neil Armstrong. He was followed by Buzz Aldrin, while Michael Collins continued to orbit the Moon in the command module. Armstrong famously said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” The moon landing was a huge victory for the United States in the Space Race and demonstrated the country’s technological and scientific power.
