Description:
- The Allies: Chanda Sahib (seeking the Carnatic Nawabi) and Muzaffar Jung (claiming the Nizamship of Hyderabad) allied with the French East India Company. The disciplined French infantry was led by commander De Bussy.
- The Defender: Anwaruddin Muhammed Khan, the existing Nawab of the Carnatic, who had the support of the British and Nasir Jung (the Nizam of Hyderabad)
Aftermath and Significance
- Chanda Sahib's Rise: Following the victory, Chanda Sahib and Muzaffar Jung victoriously entered Arcot the very next day, with Chanda Sahib claiming the title of Nawab of the Carnatic.
- British Intervention: Anwaruddin’s son, Muhammed Ali Khan Wallajah, fled south to Trichinopoly and sought military assistance from the British, formally setting off the Second Carnatic War.
