mar 1, 1200 - Ladino Emerges
Description:
Ladino, also called Judeo-Spanish, developed among Sephardi Jews in Spain and later spread after the Spanish Expulsion of 1492. It preserved older Spanish forms while adding Hebrew, Turkish, Greek, Arabic, and other influences.
Ladino became the main language of many Sephardi communities in the Ottoman Empire, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. Like Yiddish, it shows how Jews created a unique Jewish language while living among other cultures.
