jan 1, 1550 BC - Egypt New Kingdom begins
Description:
Ahmose I, founder of the 18th Dynasty, captured Avaris and expelled the Hyksos from Egypt. This ended foreign rule in the north and began the New Kingdom. The Ahmose son of Ebana inscription preserves important evidence for the siege of Avaris and the pursuit of the Hyksos to Sharuhen.
After the Hyksos were defeated, Egypt was ruled by a new native Egyptian dynasty. This new political order may have viewed Semitic people in the Delta with suspicion, fitting the biblical phrase that a new Pharaoh arose “who did not know Joseph.”
