jan 1, 550 BC - Nebuchadnezzar Chronicle
Description:
The Nebuchadnezzar Chronicle, also known as the Jerusalem Chronicle and catalogued as BM 21946 in the British Museum, is a Babylonian clay tablet written in Akkadian cuneiform. It records Nebuchadnezzar II’s campaign against Judah in 597 BCE, when he besieged Jerusalem, captured the city, took King Jehoiachin prisoner, appointed a new king, and carried tribute back to Babylon. This is one of the strongest non-biblical pieces of evidence for the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem, although it refers to the earlier capture of the city, not the final destruction of the Temple in 586/587 BCE.
