jan 1, 1550 BC - Hyksos defeated
Description:
Ahmose son of Ebana Inscription
The tomb inscription of Ahmose son of Ebana, an Egyptian officer, describes Pharaoh Ahmose I in war against the Hyksos, including the siege of their capital Avaris in the Nile Delta and later fighting at Sharuhen in southern Canaan. The Hyksos were West Asian/Semitic rulers who controlled northern Egypt before being expelled by the Egyptians. This inscription does not prove the Israelites were the Hyksos, but it is important background because it shows that Semitic/Canaanite peoples lived in Egypt and were later driven back toward Canaan centuries before Israel appears clearly in archaeology.
