John Lennon and Paul McCartney first met on July 6, 1957, at a summer garden fête at St. Peter's Church in Woolton, Liverpool. Introduced by their mutual friend Ivan Vaughan, 15-year-old Paul was introduced to 16-year-old John, who was performing with his skiffle group, The Quarrymen.
Later John stated: "That was the day, the day I met Paul, that it started moving."

Paul also talked about that day:

"I just thought, 'Well, he looks good, he's singing well and he seems like a great lead singer to me.' Of course, he had his glasses off, so he really looked suave."
