sep 19, 1777 - Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga occurred in Saratoga County, New York. It was a major turning point for the American Revolution in America. The colonial victories here were massively beneficial, granting foreign support to the colonists. The British surrender gave Americans new hope and gave the French a strong enough reason to join the fight to help America. Without the help from the French, the events following this battle would have had drastically different outcomes. Americans were obviously victorious at the battle of Saratoga; British General John Burgoyne surrendered to American General Horatio Gates. This is a serious reversal for the British forces. Their Native American allies had abandoned them because they were under the false impression that the American forces were much more numerous than they actually were.
