Description:
The Ahoms arrived in Assam in 1228 CE. Led by Prince Sukaphaa, a Tai leader from Mong Mao (present-day Yunnan, China), they crossed the Patkai mountain range to enter the Brahmaputra Valley and established the Ahom Kingdom.
Leader: Sukaphaa, a Tai prince, led roughly 9,000 followers into the region.
Arrival Location: They entered through the Patkai Hills and reached Namrup in southeastern Assam.
First Capital: In 1253, the first capital was established at Charaideo.
Rule Duration: The Ahom Dynasty ruled the region for nearly 600 years (1228–1826).
Significance: The state government commemorates this arrival on December 2nd as Sukhapa Diwas (or Asom Divas).
They originated from southern china/southeast asia, specifically around yunnan and northern myanmar. it's a huge linguistic group that spread all over that region.
