sep 30, 1956 - Martin Luther King House Bombing Sep. 30, 1956
Description:
On September 30, Martin Luther King Jr.'s house was bombed by segregationists as revenge for the success of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. At the time of the bombing, King was speaking at a mass meeting at the First Baptist Church. When he arrived home, his house was surrounded by African Americans with guns and knifes and a barricade of white policeman. The MIA, which King had just become President of, was inspired by the bombing to file a federal suit directly attacking the laws establishing bus segregation.
