nov 1, 1923 - Unionist
Party
Description:
- The Unionist Party was founded in 1923 in Punjab, primarily by Fazli Husain (Muslim) and Chhotu Ram (Hindu Jat).
- It was later led by Sikander Hayat Khan and then Khizr Hayat Khan Tiwana.
- Anti-Congress, Anti-League: It was suspicious of both the INC (seen as dominated by urban Hindus and lawyers) and the Muslim League (seen as an urban Muslim ashraf/elite party)
- It was seen as a model of communal harmony in politics, at least in the early years.
