apr 30, 1995 - Edward Singer's interview with KPR

Description:

Edward: "Yeah, okay. Are we live? Good, I don't want to waste any more of my time with these fucking interviews. [CLEARS THROAT] Hello, Great Britain! This is your host, Edward Singer, writer and publisher of the critically acclaimed, The Independent. We have a very special guest with us today, one of the UK's biggest upcoming artists, maybe even a prodigy! Give some hands of applause for Alex Colby!"

Alex: "Cheers, mate. I mean, thank you for inviting me over, Mr. Singer."

Edward: "Of course! Come, now. You're quite the character, aren't you? A chart-topper and already planning a tour for America."

Alex: "Well, I mean... It's all a lot to be taken in and to handle, but I've always wished for this, like, sort of attention. I mean, sort of fame, ever since I was, like, young. Yeah, you know, stuff like that."

Edward: "Mhm, mhm... So, tell us, how did you do it? How did you find success like this? Usually, it takes much, much longer than just a year for an artist to find a big break!"

Alex: "I mean, it's not really true. By that, I mean I've been performing in various nightclubs since at least 1990, from what I can remember. I think it was around the start of 1990 around, around there, you know?"

Edward: "Well, its funny you mentioned that, because nobody was ever credited or even registered under any of your aliases! Even back to 1990."

Alex: "Oh, you see, they were very rather small clubs, you know, very niche and not really popular. And, by all means, I was eighteen at the time and was going by various aliases, like-

Edward: [LAUGHTER] "I'm going to stop you there, Mr. Colby. But isn't it a little strange that before the year of '94, there aren't any writings or publishers at all? You never existed."

Alex: "Fucking hell do you mean by that then? That I'm some sort of random bloke, erh... The street, or that I'm some sort of bloody fake?! Tell me what you mean by that, Mr. Singer?"

Edward: [CHUCKLE] "Okay, that's not what I meant. I was just simply making a-- [SIGH] Alright, could you please give him some water? We've out of-"

Alex: "I don't fucking need water, you dumb fucking [TABLE SLAM] bastard!"
