In 1954, the Juvento split into a Marxist-Leninist wing under Aithson, which at the time had to seek refuge on the Gold Coast, and a moderate direction in which above all the brilliant lawyer Anani SANTOS stood out; in 1954 and 1955, Santos represented the theses of his Juvento before the United Nations. Messan Aithson who, having built the movement, wished to see it become the local branch of the militant interterritorial Rassemblement Démocratique Africain. In 1954 Aithson resigned from Juvento, carrying with him some of the more militant members, while Ben Apaloo (who died in a car crash in 1964) assumed the leadership of the truncated movement.
