Among his many abilities was a rare talent known as thorn communion, allowing him to perceive and transmit sensations through connected plant structures. Recognizing the usefulness of this gift, Thorne cultivated a vast underground web of enchanted roots and thorns beneath Grikonis Island. From this living network he grew small, durable thorn fragments that remained magically connected to the greater root system. Members of the Starfield family would carry these thorns with them at all times. They were typically worn as:

• necklace pendants
