The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was founded following the end of the Montgomery Bus Boycotts.The first decisions made by these officers, such as Ralph Abernathy and Martin Luther KIng included the adoption of nonviolent mass action as the cornerstone of strategy, the affiliation of local organizations with the SCLC, and the effort to make the SCLC movement open to everyone regardless of race, religion, or background.
