Description:
The scariest moment in the Cold War happened in 1983 when Soviet officer Stanislav Petrov was watching a missile warning system and the system suddenly showed that the US had launched 5 nukes at the Soviet Union. According to protocol, Petrov was supposed to report it so the soviet could answer with their own nuke. Believing the warning was a mistake he kept silent. It was shown later that the warning system malfunctioned and he did the right thing. He may have saved the world that day
