apr 4, 1949 - NATO

Description:

NATO, short for The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was created in 1949, by the United States, Canada and many western European nations to protect them against the Soviet Union. After world war ll, European nations struggled to rebuild their economics. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, stated that an attack on one member of would be an attack on all members. If any of the 12 nations were attacked it would have caused a war instantly. Since there was never an attack on nato during the cold war, it gave the nation time to recover and rebuild their economy and political status. Today, Nato is still around, and it has expanded to 32 nations.
