(Takeoff) The B17 piloted by Captain Frederick c eaton jr and part of the Kangaroo Squadron departed from Townsville Australia for the first heavy bomber offensive raid by the U.S in the Pacific theater (The Raid) The objective was to bomb Japanese shipping in Simpson Harbour at Rabaul (Sustained Damage After successfully bombing) the target, the bomber was intercepted by Japanese fighter planes It sustained heavy fire including a hole in its fuel tank
